"Da Tree House"
No
one knows exactly when or what sparked this remarkable moment
of artistic genius for an amazing gentleman by the name of Johnny
Knight. An artist and woodcarver, Mr. Knight was no stranger to
creative bursts of ideas, but none before or after would ever
compare to the kaleidoscopic explosion that manifested itself
in the form of Johnny Knight's Treehouse. Armed with a few sketches
on paper napkins and a brain filled with pictures no one else
could see, Mr. Knight embraced his vision and brought it to life.
For 30 years he labored with love on a creation most thought to
be at the least outrageous, and at the most downright crazy.
Mr. Knight began his project in 1971 by setting massive cedar
stumps as bases for his intriguing octagonal shaped house in the
trees. Next he crafted a spider leg-like beam support system that
to this day baffles even the most seasoned builders. His spiral
hand-split log staircase covered by a sweeping circular roof is
nothing short of magical, and Mr. Knight's handpicked location
of a secluded forest hilltop only adds to the feel of
a faraway Fairytale land of endless peace and tranquility.
Mr. Knight was not afraid to follow his dream. In doing so, he
created something uniquely special and with it, a legacy that
can only be admired. He dared to be different. May we all
be so brave.
